The Lock Lamp was developed by Sculptor and master metalworker Colin Chetwood and eco-minimal design engineer Nick Grant. Nick and Colin have collaborated on a number of projects including their first lighting project for Architects Architype.
Small scale manufacture
The lights are handmade in our sweatshop in Herefordshire by Colin with occasional interference from Nick. The lamps are hand finished and assembled but we do employ modern techniques such as laser and water-jet cutting where appropriate.
Colin Chetwood and Nick Grant
Colin and Nick first worked together in 2006 to design and manufacture a range of lighting solutions for the Stirling Sustainability Award winning Upper Twyford Barn for Architects Architype. Over the years they have collaborated on a number of projects and toyed with various ideas for ultimate lamp designs.
Nick is the Principal of Elemental Solutions providing consultancy in Passivhaus and all aspects of sustainable building design. He trained as a design engineer and lighting fits nicely with his work in energy efficient building and gets him away from the computer and into the workshop.
Colin studied Fine Art Sculpture at the Slade School of Art and Postgraduate Fine Art studies at Cardiff. He studied Blacksmithing with the Wessex Guild and has many years experience in all aspects of metal working. He trades as Colin Chetwood Lighting and his work can be seen in galleries around the UK.
